Custom Sew-On Metal Logo for Knit Beanies

See how Ninco helped an emerging brand create a custom zinc alloy logo for knit beanies, with two side sewing loops and a polished gold-color finish—from 3D design and tooling to production and customer feedback.

An emerging brand founder contacted Ninco with a modest initial quantity and a clear ambition: to turn a carefully considered brand logo into a refined metal piece.

The founder had detailed expectations and wanted a supplier who would take the project seriously. Through communication, production drawing review and sample development, Ninco helped bring the logo into physical form. The customer’s feedback after delivery is included below.

This case follows the development of an openwork SYD metal logo with two side sewing loops, from the production design to the finished gold-color piece.

A Founder Who Cared About the Details

For a new brand, the first custom logo can feel like an important part of its identity becoming real. The founder wanted to begin with a manageable quantity, but still expected a carefully finished result.

During communication, the customer explained the desired effect and raised detailed requirements. Our task was to understand those expectations and translate them into manufacturing details that both sides could review.

Clear communication helped build the founder’s confidence in Ninco and establish a shared direction for the project.

Translating the Logo into a 3D Production Drawing

The SYD design combines flowing letter shapes, open spaces and a circular outline. Two sewing loops extend from the sides to provide attachment points.

For this type of design, the production review needs to consider the connections between the letters and the outer frame, the shape of the openings, the overall thickness and the position of the sewing loops.

Ninco prepared a 3D structural drawing to show the front, back and side of the piece. This made the form easier to review before mold making. The drawing references include a 2.0 mm thickness; this is a project-specific dimension, rather than a standard thickness for every metal label.

Creating the Mold

Once the production design was confirmed, the project moved to mold making.

The mold defines the lettering, outer outline and attachment features of the cast piece. The accompanying mold image illustrates the tooling stage used to move from the 3D structure to physical metal parts.

Die Casting the Zinc Alloy Blanks

The logo was formed in zinc alloy through die casting. At this stage, the pieces already had the openwork lettering and side loops, but had not yet received their final surface finish.

The raw casting image shows this intermediate stage. Surface preparation was still needed before the pieces could achieve the intended finished appearance.

Polishing Before Plating

After casting, the pieces went through trimming and surface preparation, followed by polishing and grinding as required.

The curved lettering and narrow spaces needed attention during finishing. The aim was to improve the surface while preserving the character of the logo and the open areas between the letters.

The polished, unplated pieces appear bright and silver-colored. That appearance should not be confused with a confirmed silver-plated finish: these pieces are shown at the preparation stage before final plating.

The Finished Gold-Color Metal Logo

Electroplating gave the pieces their gold-color finish, bringing out the dimensional lettering and circular frame.

The finished images show the relationship between the polished curves, openwork spaces and the two sewing loops. The loops provide positions for stitching the label onto a suitable product.

For Ninco, the value of the project was in carrying the customer’s expectations through the development stages—from discussing the idea to preparing the drawing, producing the mold and finishing the physical piece.

The initial quantity was modest, but the logo mattered to the founder. It deserved careful communication and attention throughout the project.
